The delegation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) expert mission led by Jing Zhang, Section Head of the Division for Europe, Department for Technical Cooperation, on the fourth day of their working visit, together with Sladjan Velinov, Director of Serbian Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security Directorate (SRBATOM), visited the Rectorate of the University of Novi Sad and Science and Technology Park of Novi Sad.
The President of the Provincial Government of Vojvodina and Chair of SRBATOM Board, Maja Gojkovic, together with the Provincial Secretary for Higher Education and Scientific and Research Activities, Prof. Dr. Branko Markoski and the management of the University of Novi Sad welcomed the delegation and had a meeting at the Rector’s Office in Novi Sad.
This meeting was a great opportunity to discuss the possibilities for future cooperation in the areas of common interest, and Prof. Dr. Branko Markoski emphasized the importance of the exchange of knowledge and transfer of best practices, especially since the cooperation with the IAEA is seen as an opportunity for the scientific community of Serbia, including the University of Novi Sad and Science and Technology Park to enter global developments in the field of nuclear energy.
The tour of the Science and Technology Park as one of the most modern facilities in Serbia was an opportunity to talk about the possibilities for cooperation, and the exchange of knowledge and experience. On the occasion, the delegation had the opportunity to get to know the activities and the projects at the Research and Development Institute for Artificial Intelligence and the Faculty of Technical Sciences of Novi Sad.
After the tour of the Science and Technology Park, the head of the expert team from Vienna, Jing Zhang, emphasized the importance of the interaction between science, technology, education and industry as a way to give support to the development of our country and the region as well. He added that he definitely sees the important role of the Science and Technology Park and a number of possibilities for future cooperation in different fields. He also underlined that the Republic of Serbia had had a long-standing cooperation with the IAEA which would be continued through the technical cooperation programme in the aeras of environmental protection, medicine, energy production and other nuclear technology applications.
In addition, a third of the Science and Technology Park’s premises is dedicated to the Faculty of Technical Sciences of Novi Sad consisting of laboratories for study programmes in the field of information technology, offices for Professors and Teaching Assistants, libraries, amphitheater and closed and open atrium. The remaining premises are intended for business development centres and start-up companies, which in turn creates a synergy between education, science and industry.
