2 December 2019, Vienna – Argentinian diplomat Rafael Mariano Grossi takes office as Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at a special session of the IAEA’s General Conference.
With a career spanning over 35 years of experience, Grossi worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Argentina and different institutions within NATO organization, especially in the fields of non-proliferation and disarmament.
The Argentinian diplomat will be the sixth Director General since the establishment of the IAEA in 1957, and will lead the world’s centre for cooperation in the nuclear field for the following four years.
Mr Grossi has a Ph.D. in History and International Politics, a master’s degree in International Relations and a degree in Political Sciences.
Mr Grossi was born in 1961, married and has eight children.
