IAEA experts at Vinca Institute of Nuclear Sciences

The members of the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) within the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), together with the representatives of Serbian Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security Directorate (SRBATOM), visited yesterday the Vinca Institute of Nuclear Sciences. The visit focused on the OIOS audit and assessment mission and three national projects whose implementation in Serbia is supported by the IAEA:

  • Upgrading of Calibration Service for Medical Applications of Ionizing Radiation)
  • Strengthening Calibration Services at the Secondary Standard Dosimetry Laboratory for Radiotherapy Applications
  • Strengthening the National Capacities for Radiopharmaceutical Production

After the introductory meeting with the Institute management where the guests had an opportunity to hear about the organization, plans and the objectives of this renowned scientific institution, they visited the Department of Radiation and Environmental Protection with the installed donated equipment and used this opportunity to talk with the Project Counterparts and have and overview of the Project implementation.

The guests also visited the Department of Radioisotopes and gained insight into the work and research activities in this laboratory, as well as into the accomplishments and the implementation stage of the Project.

After the visit to Vinca Institute, the IAEA experts returned to SRBATOM to have a meeting with the Director, Sladjan Velinov to present the preliminary findings and conclusions of the OIOS 2025 Regional Country-level Evaluation and Audit (CLEA-R) of the Agency’s Work in Europe and Central Asia. The meeting was also an opportunity to touch upon the future cooperation between the IAEA and SRBATOM, as well as to share positive impressions on the mission organization.
