On Monday, 13 March, 2023, the representatives of the Serbian Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security Directorate (SRBATOM) hosted the guests from the European Commission (EC), namely Juan Carlos de la Rosa Blul, Technical Project Manager and Xavier Pinsolle, Project Manager, as well as Gligo Vukovic as the representative of EU Delegation in Belgrade. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the EC representatives with the project serving to enhance the exchange of radiological data between the European countries.
Once SRBATOM Director, Sladjan Velinov welcomed the guests and underlined the significance of the support our country receives from the European Commission through the projects devoted to enhancing radiation and nuclear safety and security, they were presented with the status of the environmental radioactivity monitoring system in our country. The meeting was also an opportunity to discuss the modalities through which the European Commission can support Serbia in enhancing this field, primarily by providing specific trainings, as well as other means of technical assistance.
The EC representatives pointed out that the Directorate is one of the most successful institutions in implementing the projects in cooperation with the European Commission, which was greeted with mutual satisfaction. This was followed by an observation that Serbia, in terms of managing nuclear and radiological risks, fulfills all necessary European standards governing the field of environmental radioactivity monitoring, which will be additionally strengthened through the ongoing EC projects.
