The Director of Serbian Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security Directorate (SRBATOM), Mr Sladjan Velinov, as part of the European Commission Project “EP&R in the Western Balkans Region“, has visited Austrian radiation and nuclear safety regulatory body in Vienna. On the occasion, Mr Velinov had the opportunity to get acquainted with the work and the organization of both the Austrian regulatory body and JRODOS center, as the operational unit within the regulatory body providing support for nuclear emergency management.
JRODOS is a platform used to simulate the movement and dispersal of radioactive material through the environment, and to evaluate the doses the public might receive in case of a nuclear or radiological accident. JRODOS has an important role in developing the system of protection and rescue, that is, in strengthening readiness to react and respond to the consequences of a nuclear accident.
A training course in using JRODOS real-time online decision support system for emergency management after nuclear or radiological accidents was organized this week within the same project where Serbia had its representative. The training of professional staff for JRODOS platform is one of the first steps towards establishing JRODOS center in Serbia.
The Austrian JRODOS center was established 17 years ago, and today it represents one of the best organized centers of the kind in Europe.
