Report on Environmental Public Exposure to Ionizing Radiation for 2020 години

The Report on Public Exposure to Ionizing Radiation from the Environment in 2020 has been published on SRBATOM’s website. The report was compiled based on the radioactivity monitoring results gathered from the samples of air, precipitation, surface water, foodstuffs and feeding stuff, which was conducted the laboratories of the Vinca Institute of Nuclear Sciences, University of Belgrade, Faculty of Sciences in Novi Sad, and the Institute of Occupational Health “Dr. Dragomir Karajovic”.

Landscaping – a Key Element to Improve Our Environment

In order to raise the citizens’ awareness on the importance of the environmental protection and its preservation for the future generations, Serbian Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security Directorate (SRBATOM) has set up the project of “Zelena Srbija” in 10 cities across Serbia. The project is carried out with the support of the Provincial Secretariat for Urban Planning and Environmental Protection, a number of Embassies to Serbia, and Color Media Communication. So far in 2021, the project has been realized in Zrenjanin, Backa Palanka, Priboj, Topola and Kikinda, while at least five more cities are yet to come.

No Radioactivity Release in NPP Taishan in China

The China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA) informed the international community on 16 June 2021 that there was a minor damage on fuel rods in Taishan Nuclear Power Plant, which consequently led to the increased level of radioactivity in the closed reactor coolant system. This situation, which is not uncommon in the course of normal operation of nuclear reactors, was restored in line with the existing procedures.

On Information on Elevated Radioactivity in China

Reacting to the media reports on elevated radioactivity levels in the vicinity of the Taishan Nuclear Power Plant in the south of China, Serbian Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security Directorate (SRBATOM) wants to confirm that, to date, we have not received any official information on this matter. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) released no official information on the matter as well.

Operations in Power Plant Not Disrupted by Cernavodă NPP Accident

The National Commission for Nuclear Activities Control (CNCAN) as the nuclear safety and security regulatory authority of Romania informed the International Atomic Energy Agency on a minor incident on 15 June 2021 in the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant site in Romania. The incident occurred in the chlorination station located outside the nuclear facility. The incident had no impact on people’s health or the environment, and had not interfered with the safety in the power plant operations.

SUCCESS OF SERBIAN SCIENCE AND RECOGNITION FOR SERBIAN RESEARCH TEAM

SUCCESS OF SERBIAN SCIENCE AND RECOGNITION FOR SERBIAN RESEARCH TEAM

As a part of GENESIS project (Boosting excellence of UNSPMF NPG in neutrino physics research), approved by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia within the Serbian Science and Diaspora Collaboration Program, the associates of the Chair of Nuclear Physics in the Department of Physics at the Faculty of Sciences in Novi Sad, led by Prof. Dr Natasa Todorovic as the project manager, have officially become the members of DUNE (Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment) science collaboration. DUNE is currently made up of over 1000 researchers from more than 30 countries (more than 190 institutions), and the first research team from Serbia was represented by the associates from the Chair of Nuclear Physics – Prof. Dr Natasa Todorovic, full professor, Prof. Dr Jovana Nikolov, associate professor, and Dr Nikola Jovancevic, assistant professor, as well as four doctoral students of nuclear physics. A member of the team is also Dr Lidija Zivkovic, a scientific consultant at the Institute of Physics in Belgrade.
