Interregional projects deliver assistance and support beyond national and regional borders, and address the needs of several Member States in different regions. Interregional projects are divided into the following categories: transregional, global, capacity building projects and joint activities with an international entity.
The IAEA member states are grouped for administrative reasons, so technical assistance and cooperation projects take place in four regions: Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and Europe.
Transregional projects address development challenges that involve countries from more than one region, but not necessarily in all regions.
Global standard-setting projects provide a framework for equal participation by Member States globally. Projects may include the development of guidelines, curricula, teaching materials and best practice documentation.
The capacity-building projects of developing countries support applicants from developing countries to participate in conferences, seminars and workshops approved under the IAEA Master Programs, thus promoting networking and knowledge sharing.
Joint technical cooperation activities with an international entity are formalized through cooperation agreements and are also considered as interregional projects.
