Third day of IAEA expert visit at Oncology Institute of Vojvodina and Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia

On the third day of their official visit, the IAEA representatives, accompanied by the SRBATOM representatives, first had a tour of the Oncology Institute of Vojvodina in Sremska Kamenica and a meeting with the national counterpart for the project “Upgrading Radionuclide Therapy and Diagnostics and Improving the Advanced Application of External Beam and Brachytherapy” to discuss the stages of and the progress in its implementation, as well as its significance for the Republic of Serbia.

Following this meeting, the team returned to Belgrade where they visited the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia and had another meeting with the Institute’s radiology experts who are also counterparts in the above project. This was an opportunity further to discuss the progress made within this project, which is implemented under the umbrella of these two institutions, and to have a tour of the premises with the equipment used for oncologic diseases treatment that the Institute received from the IAEA.

After the tour of the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia, the IAEA mission members had a meeting with the President of Serbian Radiation Oncologist Association, Dr Suzana Stojanovic Rundic who presented the Project of Development of Health in Serbia and its subcomponent – Enhancement of Malign Diseases Management. This Project is realized with the support of Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia. This was a great opportunity to present the project of constructing and equipping the radiotherapy centers in Nis, Kragujevac, Kladovo, Belgrade and Sremska Kamenica which is supported by the World Bank.
