The delegation of the Republic of Serbia is attending the 7th regular review meeting of the counterparties of the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management, which is held between 27 June and 9 July 2022 at the headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna.
This is the second time our country has attended the regular review meeting, which will this year host more than 750 delegates from 76 counterparties. The previous regular review meeting was held in May 2018. As a reminder, the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia adopted the Bill on the Ratification of the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management in November 2017.
This year’s review meeting will be the opportunity to consider the major issues in the field of safety of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel management, and each counterparty will have the chance to submit its national report comprising the measures taken towards implementing each of the obligations stemming from the Convention.
The delegates representing the Republic of Serbia submitted the national report with the overview of the current state in the field of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel management in our country. It should also be noted that the Republic of Serbia was particularly praised for the legislative and organizational changes adopted by the end of 2018.
During the regular review meeting until 8 July, our delegates are to meet with the delegations from other regional states and conduct talks aiming at advancing the cooperation and exchange of information in the field of safe radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel management, as well as consider special issues in this field.
