The use of JRODOS platform as a decision-making support system during emergencies
As a part of the EC project “EP&R in the Western Balkans Region”, 09 – 12 May 2022, the city of Drac in Albania hosted the international exercise of responding to a simulated emergency resulting from the accidents in the NPP Krsko in Slovenia and NPP Kozloduy in Bulgaria. The representatives of Serbian Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security Directorate (SRBATOM) were also a part of this exercise.
The exercise was an opportunity to put JRODOS as a support system in decision-making processes into practice. The participants in the exercise presented how the results of simulations obtained using JRODOS platform can be used in the decision-making process related to the implementation of measures aimed at protecting the public and the environment during a nuclear accident.
The real-time on-line decision support system, JRODOS, a software developed in Karlsruher Institute of Technology, is used to simulate the movement of radioactive material through the environment and to assess the dose rates received by the public during an accident. JRODOS has an extremely important role in developing the system of protection and rescue, that is to say, in strengthening the preparedness to respond to the impacts of a nuclear accident. As a part of the EC project, JRODOS was installed in Serbian Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security Directorate as the regulatory body in the field of radiation and nuclear safety and security.
The participants in this event were the representatives of the regional regulatory bodies in the field of radiation and nuclear safety and security and other civil organizations that have an important role in managing the situations and consequences caused by a nuclear or a radiological accident.
